Iraqi army launches new military operation in Anbar desert

Iraqi forces kicked off a new military operation in Anbar's desert to eliminate "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) remnants operating in areas south of al-Rutba and Wadi al-Sakar, the Anbar Operations Command said Tuesday (March 27th).

The operation was launched from two fronts based on intelligence and aerial images showing ISIS activity in certain areas of the desert, commander Maj. Gen. Mahmoud al-Falahi told Diyaruna.

"In the first hours of the operation, Iraqi forces found a vehicle and an oil tanker left behind by the terrorists after the army approached their location," he said.
