Iraqi forces storm al-Sekak in west Mosul

Iraqi forces killed dozens of "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) gunmen in two-day battles in western Mosul and stormed al-Sekak neighbourhood in the central part of town, Iraq’s Joint Operations Command said Monday (April 10th).

"Joint forces have killed at least 60 terrorists in battles in Bab al-Toub and al-Abar in the Old City area," Joint Operations Command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahiya Rasul told Diyaruna.

"Meanwhile Counter-Terrorism Service forces penetrated the frontlines of ISIL defences in al-Sekak and advanced into the neighbourhood," he said.

"The liberation of the neighbourhood should not take long in view of ISIL's weakness and the support provided by the international coalition to Iraqi forces," he said.
