Dozens of ISIL elements killed in Mosul battles

At least 40 "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) elements were killed in the battle for west Mosul on Wednesday morning (March 22nd), Iraq’s Joint Operations Command said.

"The Iraqi air force and international coalition fighter jets destroyed six ISIL sites in south-west Mosul, as well as depots where the group stores weapons, rockets and vehicles packed with explosives," Joint Operations Command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.

Iraqi forces also launched a carefully-planned operation during which they advanced into al-Yabesat neighbourhood and fully retook three main roads leading to Bab Sinjar, al-Orouba neighbourhood and al-Zanjili," he said.

ISIL elements have been called upon "to lay down their weapons and surrender to be guaranteed a fair trial", Rasul said.
