Iraq declares Heet Island fully liberated from ISIL

The Iraqi Ministry of Defence declared Tuesday (October 11th) that Heet Island in western Anbar has been fully liberated from the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL).

"With aerial support from the international coalition, Iraqi forces have fully retaken the island after the remaining ISIL gunmen fled," ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.

"Al-Zawya, al-Bakr, Ja'eel, Sarajya, al-Aliya, al-Safakiya and a number of other villages are now under Iraqi forces' control," he said.

ISIL has lost more than 200 fighters and suffered heavy material losses in military operations in the area since the beginning of October, Rasul said.
