Airstrikes target ISIL sites around Mosul

Coalition fighter jets targeted "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) tunnels in eastern Mosul, a senior Iraqi military official said Wednesday (August 10th).

“International coalition fighter jets have destroyed ISIL tunnels in Barima, a village in Bashiqa, eastern Mosul, used by ISIL to hide and launch surprise attacks against security forces,” Ninawa Operations Commander Nejim Edin Karim al-Jubury told Diyaruna.

“A number of ISIL terrorists might have been killed in these tunnels when they were targeted,” he said.

Additionally, several ISIL elements, including senior leaders, were killed in an airstrike targeting their meeting in Ninawa province.

“Acting on intelligence provided by the Counter-Terrorism Agency, Iraqi air force falcons carried out an air strike and destroyed a meeting headquarters of ISIL senior leaders in al-Sahel al-Aysar in Ninawa province,” the Iraqi Ministry of Defence said in a statement.

“Three senior leaders, nine aides and three Arab terrorists were killed in the airstrike,” the statement said.
