International coalition fighter jets on Wednesday (September 7th) launched airstrikes targeting "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) sites on the Iraq-Syria border, inflicting heavy losses on the group, Ninawa Operations Command said.
"Coalition fighter jets hit nine ISIL targets, including mobile convoys moving between Iraq and Syria carrying terrorists, tunnels, a training camp and buildings used by the group as rest houses for its members," Commander Nejim Eddin Karim al-Jubury told Diyaruna.
"Dozens of ISIL elements were killed, and at least 20 vehicles, mostly four-wheel-drive vehicles, weapons and ammunition were destroyed in the airstrikes," he added.
Additionally, coalition aircraft killed four ISIL leaders in a strike on the group's headquarters in western Anbar, the al-Jazeera and al-Badiya Command said Wednesday.
"Coalition fighter jets on Wednesday morning launched an airstrike targeting an important ISIL headquarters in al-Bakr neighbourhood, south of Heet, killing four Iraqi ISIL leaders," al-Jazeera and al-Badiya Commander Maj. Gen. Qassim al-Mohammedi said in a televised statement.
"A machine gun and a vehicle carrying a rocket launcher were also destroyed in the airstrike," he said.
