Iraqi forces capture 3 ISIL sites in Mosul's Old City

Iraqi forces have retaken three "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) sites at the centre of the Old City in Mosul's western part, the Joint Operations Command said on Monday (May 1st).

"Special forces have retaken three ISIL sites in the vicinity of al-Nuri Mosque and al-Hadba lighthouse in an operation in which 18 terrorists have also been killed," command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.

"International coalition fighter jets hit other ISIL sites and inflicted additional losses on the group," Rasul said.

"We are progressing slowly, but the western area of Mosul is now virtually under our control," he said, adding, "We are trying to prevent the infiltration of ISIL terrorists and to peacefully evacuate those who are trapped inside their homes."
