The "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) no longer controls any oilfields in Iraq after being ousted by Iraq forces from an area near Kirkuk, a senior official with the Oil Ministry said Wednesday (September 28th).
"Iraqi forces have liberated all oilfields from ISIL," ministry spokesman Assem Jihad said in a televised statement.
They "retook the last oil wells in al-Qayyara after defeating the terrorist organisation there", he added.
This victory is a "major achievement" in Iraq's war against terror, Jihad said, adding that "ISIL can no longer extract oil or sell it from Iraq".
