Iraqi forces liberate two villages south of Mosul from ISIL

Joint Iraqi forces on Tuesday (July 5th) evening retook two villages south of Mosul from the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) and inflicted heavy losses on the group, the Iraqi Ministry of Defence's media cell said Wednesday (July 6th).

“Ninawa Operations Command and all of its military and supporting units, supported by the international coalition, have fully liberated Albu Wawi and al-Darbas villages and surrounding areas as part of al-Haj villages, 90 kilometres south of Mosul,” a statement from the media cell said.

“ISIL suffered heavy material and human losses in the operation, which was supported by the international coalition and supporting units on the ground,” the statement added.
