Iraqi forces recapture Fallujah's old bridge

Iraqi police said Tuesday (June 21st) that al-Jumhouriya and Fallujah's old bridge have been freed from the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL).

Iraqi forces killed dozens of ISIL fighters and destroyed three car bombs during the takeover, federal police said, as well as seizing large quantities of weapons and ammunition.

Iraqi forces cleared the area of al-Jumhouriya and al-Baytara Street and the old iron bridge in the western part of the city following fierce fighting, Federal Police Chief Maj. Gen. Raed Shaker Jawdat told Al-Shorfa.

Iraqi forces are continuing to advance to the other parts of northern Fallujah, including al-Golan, 7 Nisan , and al-Bazara neighbourhoods, to eliminate remaining pockets of ISIL fighters, he said.
