25% of Fallujah liberated from ISIL: commander

Iraqi forces have liberated 25% of the city of Fallujah from "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) control and killed hundreds of the group's fighters since the start of operations last month, Federal Police Chief Maj. Gen. Raed Shaker Jawdat said Thursday (June 16th).

"Federal Police troops have so far liberated 25% of Fallujah, including the areas of al-Khadhra, al-Resala, Jubail, the Fallujah dam, the residential block, Nadhum al-Taqsim, al-Shohada, Street 60, the sewage station, gas factory and the second bridge in southern Fallujah," Jawdat said in a statement to the press.

"The Federal Police forces have also managed since the beginning of this week to kill 194 ISIL elements and 38 foreign snipers, in addition to destroying 47 hostile targets and 26 booby-trapped vehicles, and detonating 270 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 13 booby-trapped houses and 16 anti-aircraft systems," he said.

"Operations are proceeding steadily until the liberation of the remaining parts of the city," Jawdat said.
