Iraqi forces secure Allas and Ajeel oilfields

The oilfields of Ajeel and Allas to the east of Tikrit have been secured against "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) terror pockets and cells, the Iraqi Federal Police said Friday (June 3rd).

"The Federal Police and Counter-Terrorism Agency forces on Thursday secured an area of 40 kilometres around the Ajeel and Allas oilfields after destroying the enemy’s sites and gatherings and killing more than 70 terrorists in the last six days," Federal Police Chief Maj. Gen. Raed Shaker Jawdat told Al-Shorfa.

"ISIL repeatedly attacked the two oilfields and targeted them with rockets to destroy their infrastructure and undermine production and export," he said. "ISIL also threatened the lives of workers and engineers."

Iraqi forces have set up checkpoints and control towers around the two oilfields to fully secure them, he said, noting that foreign fighters were among those killed in the operation.
