Iraqi forces thwart ISIS attack on Salaheddine oilfield

Three "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements were killed in a failed terror attack targeting two oil wells in the Allas oilfield, south of Tikrit, the Iraqi police in Salaheddine province said.

"Joint security forces on Wednesday (December 19th) evening repelled a terrorist attack launched by several militants who tried to set fire on two oil wells using bombs," the head of the Facilities Protection Police, Col. Ahmed Abdul Sattar, told Diyaruna.

Iraqi forces engaged them, killing three and forcing three others to flee, he said, noting that the militants "were not even able to cross the security fence of the oilfield, as they were discovered about 500 metres away from it".

A pickup with weapons on board was also seized, he said, "and search is underway for the rest of the terrorists who fled".
