A large weapons cache belonging to the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) was found under a damaged building in Ramadi, the Iraqi police in Anbar province said Tuesday (March 26th).
"Joint forces from the Interior Ministry’s intelligence and Counter-Terrorism Service seized a large cache containing shells, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), locally-made explosives, ammunition, a drone, shoulder-mounted rockets and Katyusha rockets," Anbar police chief Maj. Gen. Hadi Kassar Erzaij told Diyaruna.
The operation was based on a tip-off from a local resident, he said.
"A second operation netted two ISIS elements: one involved in many terrorist attacks and another who had served with ISIS as part of the so-called al-hesba (religious police) office," he said.
They were taken to a security detention facility pending their referral to court, he said.
