Iraqi forces destroy ISIS cache in Anbar desert

Iraqi forces have uncovered a large "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) weapons cache in the Anbar desert, the Anbar operations command said Thursday (November 8th).

The underground cache contained more than 1.3 tonnes of rockets, mortars, weapons, ammunition and explosives, Anbar operations command spokesman Col. Mohammed al-Dulaimi told Diyaruna.

“The Iraqi army’s 4th Brigade found an underground cache in the Kilo-160 area of the Anbar desert," he said.

It contained 47 Katyusha rockets, about 100 mortars, ammunition for medium and light weapons and shoulder-mounted projectiles and explosives, he said.

“Recent rainfall in the desert exposed the cache," he said, adding that it has now been "fully destroyed by the Iraqi army".
