A parliamentary candidate was gunned down in northern Iraq on Monday (May 7th), with officials saying he was killed by his son in a family dispute after the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) claimed responsibility, AFP reported.
Faruq Zarzur al-Jubury, 45, was shot dead at his home south of Mosul at dawn, a local official said.
ISIS quickly claimed it had assassinated al-Jubury.
But after probing the attack, Iraqi officials rejected the claim and said the candidate's 18-year-old son had confessed to killing him in a quarrel.
"The murder of candidate Faruq Zarzur al-Jubury... had no links to terrorist crimes," judiciary spokesman Abdel Sattar Bayraqdar said in a statement.
"It was the result of a family dispute and the son of the victim has admitted to killing his father."
