Iraqi forces crack down on ISIS cells in Diyala

Two military operations have kicked off to crack down on "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) cells in Diyala province, Tigris Operations Commander Lt. Gen. Mizher al-Azzawi said Tuesday (October 3rd).

"Joint army-police forces have launched a large-scale military operation on two fronts to crack down on ISIS cells in al-Basateen and surrounding areas in Bani Saad district, south-west of Baqubah," al-Azzawi said in a statement.

The operation kicked off Tuesday morning based on accurate intelligence about ISIS cells in those areas, he said, adding that "the operation will continue until its goals have been accomplished".

"Another security force from the Tigris Operations Command kicked off an operation to pursue ISIS elements after clashing with them in Hawd al-Zor, north of al-Miqdadiyah," he said.

The results of the two operations will be announced soon, al-Azzawi said.
