Iraqi forces target ISIS hideouts in Diyala

Iraqi forces kicked off a military campaign to target the hideouts and weapons caches of terror suspects in several areas of Diyala province, the Tigris Operations Command said Monday (January 8th).

"The different branches of the Iraqi army are taking part in the campaign, which includes the neighbourhoods of Haodh al-Nada, al-Azeem, al-Hawi and neighbouring villages," commander Lt. Gen. Mizher al-Azzawi told Diyaruna.

"In the first hours of the campaign, our forces arrested a dangerous terrorist and three suspects, destroyed two ISIS tunnels and one weapons cache, and seized 43 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and two explosive vests," he said.

"The campaign will continue as part of the regular search efforts to make sure ISIS has no areas of influence in border areas between Diyala and other provinces," he said.
