Police stations reopen in Tal Afar, cleaning operations begin

The first three police stations have reopened in Tal Afar while operations kicked off to clean the city and remove all war remnants, Iraq's Joint Operations Command said Wednesday (September 6th).

"Police personnel will be distributed to various checkpoints, and will help organise the city, search houses to ensure there are no terrorist threats or explosives left behind and protect citizens’ properties from theft," command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul said.

"This will pave the way for the return of citizens," he said.

Meanwhile, large-scale cleaning campaigns have kicked off in Tal Afar to remove the debris of cars, buildings, waste and remnants of war, reopen the roads and spray pesticides, he added.
