Iraqi forces push deeper into Mosul's Old City

Iraq's joint forces on Wednesday (June 28th) retook the neighbourhoods of Hadarat al-Saada and Ahmadiya, north-west of al-Nuri mosque which the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) destroyed last week, the Ninawa Operations Command said.

A day earlier, they raised the Iraqi flag on al-Bayd and Ras al-Jada areas in Mosul's Old City as they inch closer to the river side of the city, commander Lt. Gen. Abdul Ameer Rashid Yarallah said in a statement.

"Our forces are proceeding with the military operations with resolve and determination to liberate the remaining areas and announce full victory," he said.

"The victory announcement will come in a very short time," PM Haider al-Abbadi said on Monday evening.
