ISIS now controls only 1% of Mosul: Iraqi commander

Iraqi forces have fully liberated Bab Sinjar in west Mosul, bringing the area still under "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) control to just 1%, Iraq's Joint Operations Command said Friday (June 16th).

"Iraqi forces now control 99% of Mosul and the terrorist group controls only 1% of the city," Ninawa Operations Commander Lt. Gen. Abdul Ameer Rashid Yarallah told Diyaruna.

Friday's military operations focus on removing landmines and combing houses ahead of the final push to liberate the last ISIS stronghold -- the vicinity of al-Nouri Mosque, the al-Hadba lighthouse and the area that leads to the Tigris River, he said.
