Iraqi forces repel ISIL attack east of Tikrit

Four "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) elements, including a suicide bomber, were killed in a failed attack on al-Sheikh village in Makhul, north-east of Tikrit, the Iraqi Ministry of Defence said Wednesday (April 19th).

"The army has repelled an attack on the village, killed four terrorists, wounded a fifth and forced the remaining attackers to flee," the ministry said in a statement.

"One vehicle was destroyed, another damaged, and the weapons used in the attack were seized," the statement said, noting that Iraqi forces are chasing the fleeing attackers in nearby mountainous areas.
