Iraqi forces to tighten control on Mosul's Old City

The Iraqi army and Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) have made great strides in the battle for Mosul's Old City, a military commander told Diyaruna on Friday (March 31st).

Ninawa Operations Commander Lt. Gen. Abdul Ameer Rashid Yarallah said the CTS and the army's 9th Division "have retaken large areas in Bab al-Toub and Bab al-Baydh neighbourhoods, and are now just 400 metres from the historical lighthouse (al-Hadbaa)".

"More than half of the Old City is now under our forces’ control," he said.

The "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) has suffered heavy losses in Friday’s battles, he said.
