5 Turkish soldiers killed in ISIL attack in Syria

Five Turkish soldiers were killed and another nine wounded in an attack in northern Syria blamed on the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), AFP reported Friday (January 20th).

The attack in the town of al-Bab was staged with a bomb-laden vehicle by ISIL fighters at 1:40 p.m., and wounded soldiers were taken to hospital immediately, the Turkish Armed Forces said in a statement carried in local media.

Turkish-backed opposition fighters have suffered heavy casualities in a weeks-long bid to retake the town from ISIL, the Dogan news agency said.
