ISIL bomb kills 6 civilians fleeing al-Hawijah

An improvised explosive device (IED) planted by the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) killed six civilians and wounded five others as they tried to escape from al-Hawijah, Iraqi police in Kirkuk province said Tuesday (August 23rd).

“ISIL terrorists have planted many IEDs and landmines around the city to prevent Iraqi forces from advancing and to threaten the residents who are trying to flee the town,” Kirkuk police spokesman Col. Salam al-Jaf told Diyaruna.

“Women and children were among the victims, and the security forces managed to reach the area and to transfer them to the nearby field hospital,” he said.
