ISIL executes 5 civilians for helping families flee al-Hawijah

The "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) executed five civilians in the Kirkuk province town of al-Hawijah for helping families escape its control, an Iraqi military official in Kirkuk said Tuesday (July 19th).

ISIL fighters on Monday executed five young men "execution-style in a square in town" because they were helping families escape al-Hawijah, said Col. Fadhel al-Kanani, commander of the 2nd Brigade in the Iraqi Army’s 15th Division.

“The people of al-Hawijah are trying to escape but ISIL is forcing them to stay,” he said.
