Airstrikes kill 26 ISIL fighters in northern Iraq

Iraqi airstrikes killed more than two dozen "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) elements in al-Shirqat in Salaheddine province, the Ministry of Defence said Tuesday (July 19th).

“Acting on intelligence provided by the Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency, the Iraqi air force launched airstrikes, destroying an ISIL so-called hisbah (religious police) headquarters, which was used as a rest house and an assembly point for terrorists led by a terrorist known as Abu al-Bara,” the ministry said in a statement.

The strikes also targeted a bomb-making workshop and a communications tower, the statement said, killing 26 ISIL fighters and wounding seven others.

Among the dead were specialists who rigged vehicles with explosives and communication technicians, the statement said.
