Iraqi forces reach Euphrates banks in Rawa

The Iraqi army has reached the banks of the Euphrates river in Rawa on Wednesday (November 15th), the Anbar Operations Command said.

At dawn on Wednesday, army units reached the Euphrates river banks and cleared all the areas they recaptured, removing about 1.5 tonnes of landmines and explosives planted by the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIS), command spokesman Col. Mohammed al-Dulaimi told Diyaruna.

"Iraqi forces are now preparing to cross the Euphrates into Rawa by setting up a floating bridge after ISIS blew up the only bridge on the river," he said.

Meanwhile, international coalition airstrikes hit an ISIS position inside Rawa, he said, killing six militants, "including a senior terrorist called Khalaf al-Aswad".
