Displaced families return to Baghdad area

More than 1,000 displaced families have returned to their homes in Baghdad after the completion of operations to clear "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) remnants, Baghdad Operations Command said Thursday (October 26th).

At the directive of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, "1,200 families have been returned to their original areas of residence in al-Ersan, and 110 families to al-Harkawi", south and southwest of Baghdad”, the command said in a statement.

The families were returned after their areas were cleared of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by ISIS, the statement said.

“A new batch of families will return soon to their homes after their security documents are checked so the issue of displacement from Baghdad belt areas can be closed,” the statement added.
