Iraqi forces are advancing in al-Najfi, the last Mosul neighbourhood held by the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS), Iraq's Joint Operations Command said Friday (July 7th).
"Our forces have retaken the firefighting building, the police station and an apartment building, as well as a main street leading to the Tigris river," command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.
Dozens of families have been evacuated from that area and have received emergency assistance, he said.
"Several gunmen have been killed and some others have been arrested in today's battles," he said.
