Iraqi forces kill dozens of ISIL elements in Mosul

The Iraqi army and Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) forces have retaken new areas in al-Abar and al-Tanak neighbourhoods where an operation kicked off on Wednesday (April 12th) to liberate them, Ninawa Operations Commander Lt. Gen. Abdul Ameer Rashid Yarallah said Thursday.

"Iraqi forces have retaken more than half of the two neighbourhoods and inflicted heavy losses on the 'Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant' [ISIL]," Yarallah told Diyaruna.

"Ongoing battles should lead to the liberation of the two neighbourhoods in the next two days," he said.

Yarallah said that 31 ISIL elements were killed in the operation, noting that dozens of families were evacuated to safe areas away from combat zones.
