Iraqi army retakes more areas in Mosul

Iraqi forces are advancing in western Mosul against the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), taking over facilities and storming new neighbourhoods, Iraq’s Joint Operations Command said on Thursday (March 30th).

"The army has raised the Iraqi flag on several buildings, most importantly the Silo Plant, the Health Control Department and service buildings in the Old City in the heart of western Mosul," Command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.

"Our forces have advanced by three kilometres in al-Nahrawan and inflicted heavy losses on ISIL, killing at least 10 terrorists and destroying their vehicles," he said.

Iraqi forces also arrested 11 ISIL elements who had hid among local residents in west Mosul, Ministry of Interior spokesman Brig Gen. Saad Maan said.

"Some of them are involved in murder, torture and various crimes against the residents who helped the security forces locate, identify and then arrest them," he said.
