ISIL mines kill 21 opposition fighters in Syria

At least 21 Syrian rebels fighting against the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) in northern Syria were killed Sunday (October 2nd) by landmines laid by the group as it withdrew from the area, AFP reported.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the casualties occurred while the combatants were attempting to secure the village of Turkman Barah, near the ISIL-held town of Dabiq in Aleppo province.

ISIL withdrew from the village on Sunday but heavily mined the area before it left, Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman said.

The toll prompted the opposition forces to redeploy outside Turkman Barah, he said.
