Iraqi forces drop leaflets across Ninawa

Iraqi aircraft dropped millions of leaflets on the areas that remain under the control of the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) in Ninawa province, the Ministry of Defence said Wednesday (September 14th).

The leaflets urge residents to steer clear from ISIL's sites prior to the launch of the final phase of the liberation campaign, the ministry said in a statement.

"Iraqi aircraft has carried out the biggest campaign yet, dropping seven million leaflets on 16 areas of Ninawa," including Mosul's city centre, the statement said.

"The campaign aims to inform Ninawa residents of the major victories achieved in the liberation battles," the statement said, as well as ensure their safety by urging them to keep away from ISIL headquarters, gatherings, depots and areas of presence.

The leaflets also urge "all those who are involved with ISIL to leave the group before the launch of the third and final phase of the liberation operation", the statement said.
