ISIL oil leader killed in Kirkuk

A senior "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) leader in the so-called "oil office" has been killed in an international coalition airstrike south of Kirkuk, the Iraqi Ministry of Defence said Tuesday (August 2nd).

“International coalition fighter jets on Monday evening hit ISIL targets in three locations in al-Rashad, 55 kilometres south-west of Kirkuk, killing 15 ISIL elements,” ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.

“A senior ISIL leader, Abu Hafs al-Ansari, who was in charge of the oil and wealth office for south-western Kirkuk where he smuggled and sold crude oil to smuggling networks and mafias, is among those killed,” Rasul said.
