Iraqi forces have made major progress against the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) in western Anbar over the past 24 hours, the Iraqi Ministry of Defence announced on Thursday (November 16th).

Joint Operations Commander in Anbar Lt. Gen. Abdul Ameer Rashid Yarallah said that Iraqi forces over the past 24 hours have liberated the villages of Jarn al-Jazeera, al-Taja, al-Jadish, al-Deir, al-Khor, al-Ajamiya, al-Budiya, al-Sama, al-Bidha, al-Jaabariya, al-Hasaniya, Jabail, and al-Semsyia, north of the Euphrates.

"[Iraqi forces] keep advancing towards Rawa and the southern Anbar desert," the statement said.

"The terrorists have suffered heavy losses," it said, noting that six car bombs have been detonated and three ISIS elements who were planning to blow themselves up have been killed.

Forty-five ISIS elements also were killed, 10 vehicles carrying weapons were destroyed, and more than 100 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were defused and blown up, the statement said.
