60 IEDs dismantled south of Fallujah

Iraqi forces found 60 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in a raid carried out by Iraqi forces over the past 24 hours, the Commander of Iraqi Army’s Eastern Anbar Operations, Maj. Gen. Saad Harbia, said Thursday (January 10th).

"Iraqi forces have completed a large-scale operation to clear and search an area of more than 20 kilometres in al-Naimiya, south of Fallujah," he said.

They uncovered 60 locally-made IEDs left behind by the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS), he said.

"Some of them were dismantled, and others were detonated in a controlled manner," said Harbia.

"Security forces will continue to remove all traces of ISIS and search for the group’s explosives caches," he said at a press conference held in Fallujah.

"Several suspects were arrested, and they are being interrogated over their suspected terrorist activities," he said.
