A prominent "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) element involved in various crimes has been arrested in al-Hawijah, the Kirkuk Operations Command said Friday (October 25th).
"Joint forces arrested Abu Abd al-Obaidi, a senior wanted ISIS element, in a high-level operation carried out Thursday night," Lt. Col. Ahmed Muteb al-Jubury of Kirkuk Operations Command told Diyaruna.
Several ISIS videos purportedly show al-Obaidi taking part in bombings and assassinations of Iraqi security forces, al-Jubury said, noting that the militant was arrested based on tips provided by locals on his whereabouts.
He was found in a village near al-Hawijah where he had been hiding using a fake name and identity, he said.
