Senior ISIS element arrested in Kirkuk

Iraqi forces arrested a senior "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) element in southwest Kirkuk based on tips provided by tribesmen in the area, the Iraqi police in Kirkuk province said Tuesday (August 21st).

"Security forces arrested Ahmed al-Tibi, also known as Ahmed Hesba, a senior ISIS element involved in scores of terrorist operations," Col. Riad al-Obaidi of the Kirkuk police command told Diyaruna.

"The detainee had been moving between villages southwest of Kirkuk using a fake ID," he said, noting that the ISIS element changed his appearance in an attempt to sneak out of the area and escape outside Iraq, as per his own admission.
