9 ISIS elements arrested in operations across Iraq

Five "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements, including a senior member, have been arrested in operations in several areas of Heet, western Anbar, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said Friday (September 14th).

"A force from the 1st Rapid Response Brigade, supported by local police, arrested Lateef Awaid, a terrorist wanted for committing heinous crimes against civilians, as well as four others, in various operations carried out Friday morning and Thursday night," ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Saad Maan told Diyaruna.

Security forces also seized various weapons, ammunition, documents, and maps found in their possession, he said.

Meanwhile on Thursday, four other members of ISIS were arrested in two separate operations in Diyala province and al-Hawijah, in southwest Kirkuk province, the Federal Police said.

"Terrorist Abu Hajar al-Jubury, leader of an ISIS terror cell in so-called 'Wilayat Diyala', and his aide Kamal al-Rufai were arrested in a security operation," Federal Police Chief Lt. Gen. Raed Shaker Jawdat said in a statement.

"The 3rd Special Operations Brigade also arrested two terrorists -- Ghazi Miran and Ahmed al-Jabal -- in al-Hawijah," he said.

The Iraqi forces' database of terror elements has confirmed the detained had taken part in terror operations against security forces and served as part of ISIS's al-hesba (religious police) office.
