Iraqi forces carry out successful raid against ISIS pocket in western Anbar

A contingent of "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements were killed in clashes with Iraqi forces in western Anbar, the Iraqi police in Anbar province said Thursday (December 14th).

"Joint forces carried out a pre-emptive operation targeting al-Mahbooba area, in Heet Island, 70 kilometres west of Ramadi," Anbar police chief Maj. Gen. Hadi Kassar Erzaij told Diyaruna.

They "killed 13 ISIS terrorists and destroyed an underground hideout where they were barricaded", he said.

The successful operation lasted for more than three hours on Thursday morning, he said, adding that Iraqi forces seized weapons, explosives, and two explosive vests found in the terrorists’ possession.
