Security operation nets ISIS leader in Anbar desert

A senior "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) leader in Anbar province was killed in a joint police-army operation Thursday (July 5th), the Anbar Operations Command said.

"Clashes broke out Thursday morning with a group of terrorists in Wadi al-Abyadh in Anbar's desert," commander Maj. Gen. Mahmoud al-Falahi told Diyaruna.

"Four gunmen, including senior ISIS terrorist Nejim Abboud, also known as Abu Nasser, were killed in the clashes," he said.

An underground ISIS cache containing weapons, explosives, money in hard currency, and satellite-based communications devices, was uncovered in the operation.

"The cache was fully destroyed, and an operation was kicked off in the area in search of other terrorists," al-Falahi said.
