Iraqi forces on Tuesday (September 18th) found the body of an Iraqi journalist who was kidnapped Monday by "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements near al-Fatha in northeast Tikrit, the Iraqi police said.
ISIS militants had set up a fake checkpoint on the Baiji-Kirkuk highway and kidnapped journalist Wessam Hassan al-Obaidi and his uncle as they returned from Kirkuk to Baiji, deputy Salaheddine police chief Brig. Gen. Khalil al-Raml said in a statement.
The uncle managed to escape one hour after his abduction, al-Raml said.
"At 6:00 pm (Tuesday), a local police force found the victim’s body, handcuffed and blindfolded, and with bullets to the head and chest," he said.
Al-Obaidi worked for a number of local newspapers and news agencies.
