2 ISIS elements arrested in Anbar

Iraqi forces arrested two "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements in an operation west of Ramadi, the Anbar Operations Command said Thursday (August 16th).

"Joint Iraqi army and Counter-Terrorism Service forces carried out a surprise operation in Abu Tayban, 20 kilometres west of Ramadi, and arrested two terrorists," commander Maj. Gen. Mahmoud al-Falahi told Diyaruna.

One of the detainees, "Majeed al-Maarawi, is a dangerous terrorist involved in crimes in Iraq and Syria", al-Falahi said, adding that he was involved in mass executions and car bombings.

"The joint forces found dangerous materials in the detainees' possession, including explosives, guided missiles and improvised explosive devices [IEDs]," he said.

The operation was conducted after two weeks of monitoring, he said.
