Iraqi forces remove 1 tonne of war remnants from Mosul

Iraqi forces worked relentlessly for the second day in a row to clear the city of Mosul from the remnants of war that the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) has left behind, an Iraqi military official said on Thursday (July 13th).

"About one tonne of explosives, weapons, ammunition and other remnants of war have been collected ahead of their disposal," Iraq's Joint Operations Command spokesman Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.

Iraqi forces have also arrested a number of ISIS gunmen hiding inside buildings, he said, and "seized information and documents containing names of ISIS elements and communications exchanged between the group's leaders".

UN teams have arrived in Mosul to help Iraqi forces with the comb-and-search campaign, he said.
