Mosul airstrikes kill 6 ISIL commanders

An international coalition airstrike on Thursday evening (April 6th) killed six "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) leaders in western Mosul, the Iraqi Ministry of Defence said Friday.

The airstrike "targeted a site where ISIL leaders were gathering in Hawi al-Kanisa in western Mosul", the ministry said in a statement.

The ISIL leaders included a Syrian national who was the military commander of "Jund al-Khilafa" (Soldiers of the Caliphate); a Pakistani national in charge of suicide bombers in Jund al-Khilafa; and a Syrian national in charge of rest houses.

They also included a Turkish national in charge of security; a Moroccan national in charge of transporting the muhajireen; and an Iraqi national who was responsible for setting up booby traps in Mosul, the statement said.
