Iraqi forces recap achievements of Mosul battle

In the first 100 days of the battle for Mosul, joint Iraqi forces have recaptured two districts, five sub-districts, 403 villages, and 87 residential neighbourhoods in the eastern part of the city, Ninawa operations commander Lt. Gen. Abdul Ameer Rashid Yarallah said in a press conference held on Wednesday (January 25th).

"ISIL has sustained heavy losses, with thousands of fighters killed or wounded, hundreds of vehicles burnt, and about 80% of the group's military arsenal seized in these battles," he said.

"Battles for west Mosul will kick off soon and will hold many surprises for the terrorists," he said.

Meanwhile, clearing operations in east Mosul have uncovered a number of antiquities that were found in the abandoned house of an ISIL fighter, the Joint Operations Command said Thursday.

"Security forces have found 100 antiquities dating to the Assyrian and Islamic civilisations at a house belonging to an ISIL element who left them behind and escaped after Iraqi forces entered the city," command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahiya al-Zubaidi told Diyaruna.

Al-Zubaidi lauded the citizens' significant co-operation with Iraqi forces, which has led them to uncover many ISIL hideouts in the city.
