The western Anbar town of Husayba al-Gharbiya has been fully cleared of landmines with the support of international coalition forces, the al-Jazeera and al-Badiya Command said Tuesday (October 1st).
Military engineering forces have removed more than 400 landmines planted by the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) in the town, which lies near the Syria border, commander Maj. Gen. Qassim al-Muhammadi told Diyaruna.
Additionally, around 300 locally-made improvised explosive devices (IEDs) of different shapes and sizes, and booby traps left behind by ISIS in several areas of the town before its defeat in 2017, have been removed, he said.
Coalition forces supplied the Iraqi forces with deep underground explosives detectors, circuit breakers, personnel protection gear and robots, he added.
