Iraqi forces dismantle ISIS cell in Salaheddine

A joint Iraqi army-police force has dismantled a nine-member "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) cell planning attacks in Tikrit, the Salaheddine Operations Command said Monday (September 9th).

The militants were planning terror attacks on government buildings in Tikrit, commander Maj. Gen. Muhsin Hatem told Diyaruna.

In a well-planned operation that lasted several days, the joint force raided the buildings where the militants were staying inside Tikrit and in nearby towns, he said, noting that several weapons and explosives were seized in the operations.

"Local residents provided major assistance to the security forces by submitting tip-offs on the militants," he said.
