Iraqi forces arrest 8 ISIS elements in Anbar

Iraqi forces arrested eight "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements in Anbar during large-scale security operations over the last week, Iraqi police in Anbar province said Monday (August 26th).

The detainees are accused of involvement in various terror attacks that took place while ISIS was in control of Anbar, Anbar police chief Maj. Gen. Hadi Kassar Erzaij told Diyaruna.

The arrests took place in Ramadi, Fallujah, al-Karma, and al-Habaniya, he said.

Three of the detainees were arrested with help from the local population, Erzaij said, "including one whose relatives reported him to the police".

This individual "had been hiding and using various IDs” to evade detection, he said.

Police will continue to go after ISIS remnants and cells in residential areas, he said, while the army will pursue them in western Anbar's desert and farmlands.
